Welcome to Schroeder Acres Family Farmstead!
Hello, and welcome to Schroeder Acres! I’m Kelsey, the heart and hands behind this blog. My husband, Andrew and I live in a small town on a 5-acre farmstead in mid-MO with our three sons. Before we were even married we both knew we wanted to farm. Dreams of a long gravel driveway leading up to the farmhouse where we sit in two rocking chairs on the front porch while watching our free range children & chickens are running amuck has always been a vision I’ve longed for.
While we might not have the whole “old farmhouse and white picket fence” we do have some knowledge to share from our 80’s style brick homestead we’ve built together as a family over the past eight years. In this space I’ll share my love for homemaking, canning, cooking, homesteading and more!

Before we had got married and started our little family I had been working at a local AT&T store for the past 10 years. Andrew worked at a John Deere tractor dealership during the day then off trying to farm hay and row crop on some rented ground at night. We both were putting in ton’s of hours each week doing what we thought was right according to the “modern” way of life. Even though Andrew started farming, we had a small garden, and I was canning and cooking, unfortunately it was all on the side.
Being pregnant with our oldest son was when we realized this hustle and bustle life wasn’t going to work out for us. It wasn’t how we felt God wanted us to raise our family or the life we had pictured for ourselves. Amidst that I ended up with complications which constantly threatened my pregnancy. That lead us into looking at our food, the ingredients, where it comes from, and learning how to read the labels at the grocery store. We quickly realized if we truly wanted good nourishing food we had to grow and raise it ourselves.
With a lot of prayers and by the grace of God our first son was born. So as we started to grow our family we decided to begin to grow our homestead.

A little more about Kelsey from Schroeder Acres
I’m the oldest of four children and was blessed to have a wonderful “stay-at-home-mom” for my entire childhood. Ever since I was a little girl if anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I always replied “to be a mom and live on a farm”. Which is kinda funny because we always lived a suburban life. From little on my Memaw had taught me sewing basics, knitting, and gave me all my crafty skills. Fast forward to my early 20’s, my best friend’s mom (Mama T) taught us to make concord grape jelly and how to pressure can green beans. Little did I know, with every pluck or snap soon I would be hooked! I believe that’s where my love for canning began.
Now I’m blessed to call myself a full-time homemaker and homesteader. I’m even dabbling into a bit of homeschooling. I absolutely love baking sourdough bread and cooking from scratch with food we preserved, grew, and raised in our backyard to fill the tummies of this household. For fun I throughly enjoy thrifting, yard sales, flea markets, and antique stores. I’m not sure if it’s the feeling of creating a beautiful, relaxing space with old treasures or the thrill of buying something cool and unique with only a couple dollars that I love more.
